Academic Equivalency Framework

Academic Equivalency Framework

The Academic Equivalency Framework (AEF) was created by audiology and speech-language pathology regulators from across Canada. The AEF outlines the minimum academic coursework and supervised clinical practicum requirements that the curriculum of an applicant from outside of Canada or from a non-accredited Canadian program must contain to be considered equivalent to an accredited Canadian program.

Use of the Academic Equivalency Framework (AEF)

CASLPO's Board of Directors has endorsed the use of the Academic Equivalency Framework (AEF) for evaluating non-accredited Canadian and international programs. This is effective for applications received from March 12, 2023.

To meet CASLPO’s registration requirements, applicants from non-accredited Canadian and international programs must provide documentation to the College demonstrating their adherence to the AEF's minimal standards.

Requirements for International and Non-Accredited Canadian programs:

The applicant must have:

  1. A professional master’s degree in audiology or speech-language pathology, and
  2. This degree must contain coursework and practicum hours and content equivalent to an accredited Canadian program, as outlined by the AEF.
