Self Assessment 2008
January 2008-December 2010
The Self Assessment Tool has been updated!
Council is pleased to provide the 2008 Self Assessment Tool (SAT) and Guide for use in the 2008-2010 cycle. The SAT articulates the standards of the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology and incorporates them into a self-evaluative mechanism enabling members to identify practice strengths and areas needing improvement. The SAT is broad enough to encompass both professions in a variety of practice settings yet specific enough to allow reflection on individual practices.
Our on-going evaluation of the past two self-assessment cycles has revealed that the standards and indicators of the SAT are valid in determining member compliance with CASLPO standards. As a result, the five Professional Practice Standards remain unchanged, with minor revisions to indicators and examples of evidence of compliance.
The CLAC Program has also proved to be a successful initiative ensuring that CASLPO members acquire the continuing professional education that they require to maintain competence and keep up to date with developments in the practice of audiology and speech-language pathology. The basic components of the CLAC program remain unchanged. In the course of filling out the Self Assessment Tool, members must still list a minimum of three learning goals. All learning activities must be related to one of the learning goals. Each hour of learning counts as a Continuous Learning Activity Credit (CLAC). Members must acquire 45 CLACs in a three-year cycle. On each annual review members must determine the progress they have made in meeting their learning goals and the impact their learning activities have had on their practices. The criteria for CLACs have been simplified and the forms have been revised based on member input.
All general and academic members must fill out the compliance ratings on this new SAT. Members should also formulate three learning goals and begin recording CLACs. Member are reminded that the completed 2005 SAT and supporting documentation must be kept on file until the end of the current cycle. Members are only required to submit their SATs when the College requests them to do so. This includes the submission of CLACs. Each year, 250 members will be randomly selected to submit their Self Assessment Tools to the College. These Tools will be used to collect aggregate data and not be individually evaluated. From this group, 30 members will be randomly selected to participate in the Peer Assessment Program.
Non-practicing members will be required to submit CLACs prior to changing their status back to a general member. Once in practice they may be randomly selected to submit their SATs.
CASLPO is committed to assisting members to complete their SAT. All members should refer to the Guide. If you require further guidance please feel free to contact CASLPO staff.
